Arundel Parks & Recreation Spring Flag Football Update 

As many of you know, the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development has updated their Community Sports guidelines on March 12, 2021. After thoroughly reviewing the new guidelines we believe there is a modified approach for our spring flag football season to start. The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development has a COVID19 Prevention Checklist outlining the varying levels of participation. Level 4 became effective as of March 12, 2021.  


  • Level 4: In-person competition between teams from the same geographic area (e.g., the same county and in some cases adjacent counties). This level of play involves interaction between two cohorts of participants.


There are recommendations for competition and group activities based on the guidelines from the Education Health Advisory System within the COVID19 Prevention Checklist. The guidelines also use the best practices recommended by the U.S Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Aspen Institute, and guidance documents from several states. 

This program will focus on skill development and having fun! Skill development such as passing, catching, flag pulling, correct positioning on the field, etc. The last 20 minutes of the program there will be a squad scrimmage where your child will be placed on a team. This allows your child to learn important skills for the first portion of the program but also focusing on having fun at the end with their friends. 

Health Screenings will happen before your child enters the field. These screenings are the same as RSU 21 when your child arrives for school and Arundel Rec’s Full Day Program. All participants, staff, and coaches will also have a health screening before entering the field. The safety measures that are in place will include small group sizing, health screenings, masks are optional to participants and spectators. We ask if you can't maintain six feet of social distancing on the sideline then wear a mask. Your child will receive a sanitized football to use for their session once they have completed the check-in process. All footballs will be disinfected and cleaned before/after use.

In case of rain or wet field conditions Arundel Parks & Rec will email you no later than 2:00pm for any cancellations.
